Tortoise

Is it called a turtle cat in English? In Dutch a turtle cat is a cat with small spots. I translated it in small squared. One had to be different this time. Maybe one fell off. Will it grow on again? Or is it a hidden door? What would be hidden behind it?

Tortoise cats are a bit shy, but also they are curious. Will curiosity win over shyness?

Steam Cat!

Good night, Royal Blue Cat!

Grab all the stars from the sky,
Let's walk through the moonlight, you and I,
Together we sing along the road:
"Pussy is the Sky with Diamonds!"

Edit: Later today I saw on the news it was 30 years ago that John Lennon died... I didn't know this when I posted this.

Ghost Cat

You know how kids are. They see ghosts everywhere. Watch a scary program on TV and you have to stay up a few nights. This is how we missed the first Doctor Who series.

I was painting another cat, while Eva (my girlfriend) was watching Ghost Whisperer, with Bram. I had warned, but they both did want to see the show. It inspired me to make this "Ghost Cat". Luckily Bram now understands that TV shows are fantasy. Or is it not...

Be Curious

I have a dream. Just a small dream. I would like to see some of my cats hanging inside the school where I work on unexpected places. Just to cheer people a little. I noticed a lot of students already have seen it. Only a few know it's mine. It would be fun if the cats would surprise people, without that people know who made it.
This is the first lucky cat. It is hanging above a hallway at the stair case on the 2nd floor. I got help from a concierge. He was armed with a hammer drill. Took me 2 minutes to hang it there. Thanks Jan! When taking this picture a student (Rosaly) was laughing at me. Not sure what to think of that...
Why does the sun turn red? Why am I ? Why do I hang up here? Why am I a blue striped tiger? Why is a reticulum endoplasmatic and not exoplasmatic? Stay curious!

"Smurf"? Part II

Today "a girl" starts complaining about the last post. She didn't liked to be called "a girl". "Why are people here mentioned by there name, but am I "a girl". And why don't people want to know what I do with my cat in bed?  Sorry Isabelle (with one S, one B ans double L).
Sometimes she reminds me of the babysitter Kari McKeen ("It is like Carry, but with a K instead of a C, an Áh instead of en Éh , one R instead of two and I instead of an I-E).

"Smurf"?

So I had made a few cats in a week and took them to school, looking if I can find a place for it. While taking these photo's a girl walks into the lab and sees this cat. "It looks just like Smurf". In the ast she had told a lot of stories about her and her cat Smurf (and most of them, you don't want to know). So I looked at this cat, looked again to the girl. "here, you can have it", I said. "No, this cat is scary", she answers.

What's the conclusion??? The cat she shares her bed with, is it also scary? LOL. Well, it got another fine place. It is now looking over the Audio/Video office. He seems to be very happy there. BTW, why call your orange cat "Smurf".

Purple Rain, Purple Reign.

I got some new purple paint. Finally. It is a very nice shade and it mixes also well to get other tones. Mixes well with this sturdy yellow tiger.
I thought the cat looked a bit funny. It could use some funny titles too.

Ghislaine's Lucky Cat

A few weeks ago Ghislaine was walking to me on the lab. She had a free hour and was a bit bored, because she had to wait for the next lessons. Somehow I told her that I painted cat and she said she knew that. The funny thing was, she already had one of my cats. Now I am curious who also have cats of me that I forgot about.
It's not strange I made a cat for her. In the past three - four years I have seen her in all kinds of cat like outfits.
This happy Lucky Cat has found his place on Ghilaine's message board in her room.

The old cat, watching over the lab

This cat is located in the window of my laboratory. It's a bit unlucky. The acryl above dried faster than the lower layers, so the paint cracked. Somehow it cracked beautiful.Although it is very small, it attracts some attention from time to time. He's looking over th lab. The big old candy camo cat.

Bloo Dream...

No idea why. I suddenly saw this green background in my head with a strange dark blue grid. Is it a bloo dream, or is it a Nightmare in Bloo".
Ay Ay.. Does the Macro reveal a little correction on the eye :-)

Kool Kat

My sister in Law very much liked my Scottish Tartan cat. When I went to my Brother's birthday, I gave her this painting. My sister in law often wears sunglasses.

Holy Cats, then and now!

The "First Aid" teacher of the Red Cross I got my lessons from paints traditional icons. I was a bit inspired by her stories. She has to pray a lot before she can start painting and she uses only the original ingredients to make paint. I do not know if it is always healthy. To get the right shade of yellow she used special cadmium components.

I thought it's nice to introduce holy cats. I have painted several already. My mother still thinks it's a setting sun behind the cats...
My first Holy Cat. I painted it about a year ago, using a lot of paint. This is a sitting cat with a dead bird. A few days before I painted this Azrael came in the house with a living bird. He ate the bird almost totally, only leaving the tail feathers. This tortoise cat can do this too. It's a holy cat! Acryl on canvas, 20 x 20 cm, "untitled", 2009.
The text on the cat says "Holy Cat". This holy cat is strolling in the magenta night. It looks like his aureole is like a torch into the dark night. "Blue Moon Holy Cat" Acryl on canvas, 20 x 20 cm, 2010.

Moshi Moshi Pussy

I had a student who has a history of using the cell phone in class. She can't live without it it seems.Just before she left school to go to an University of Fine arts, she showed me a huge painting she made. I was quite impressed. I humbly showed photos of some of my cats. "Wow, can you make one for me? she asked.  I made her a Moshi Moshi Pussy. I was not only inspired by the problems she got by using her telephone so much, but also by this funny video.

A burning red background, a poisonous cat calling "FFF". Is it "Freight, Fight Flight" or is it the 6th letter of the alphabet. Your name in kanji like characters. Is this Voodoo?

Decca

This is also one of my first cats. While I am now fixed on the big rectangular shape, the cats on this painting are looking a little but more real. It's called Decca, because it has the grayish blue color at the bottom. It was inspired by a series of video's of my friend Riley. He had the new Vintage Colors G-Shock Silencer.

The vintage blue color remind me to the old records collection of my father. It is also the only painting I made featuring two cats.

The Joery Pussy

The Joery pussy actually was actually "just another tortoise" when I thought I was finished. Suddenly a small plant grew at the back of the cat.
Joery, who sells plants at a large garden center, asked me once to make a Lucky Cat for him. I think the cat was saying he wanted to be Joery's Lucky pussy. Now he's in the right place, watching over Joery in his room.

Lucky Cat: Nigo's Bugatti Veyron version for Bram

My son Bram likes cats. Specially our cat Azrael. Azrael loves Bram too. In and around home you can often find the two together. Bram has a small collection of miniature cats and chinese lucky cats too. Bram also liked my cat painting. I made a special cat for him.Since he is a young boy and fond of playing soldier, I decided to make a camo version. As I like vivid colors on my cats, which normally do not go with camouflage. For this cat I was inspired by Nigo's Bugatti Veyron.
I pretty much like the Bathing Ape camouflage pattern. For Bram's Lucky cat I chose a simpler Camouflage pattern. The cat is placed above the door of Bram's bedroom. This "Happy Holy Hunter" is watching over Bram when he sleeps.

Mountain God Holy Cat

I like watching cycling. This year the Tour de France passed about 20 kilometers from our house, so it was a great happening to watch.
So, what's the most interesting rider to watch?
Corretct, the Polkadot Jersey, sponsored by Carrefour. So this year we went on vacation in France. One time we shopped at a Carrefour. When walking trough the shop, my eyes fell on the a basket with scale models of the Carrefour Promotion cars of the Tour de France Publicity caravan.I couldn't resist to buy one of these cars. Unfortunately they were pretty expensive, so I could afford only one model.
The rest of the vacation only one thing was ghosting through my head. I want a polkadot cat. It was the first cat I painted when we came home from vacation.
This cat is the God of the mountain. It's a Holy Cat. The god of the Mountain deserves a polkadot outfit.
